Added this changelog, a methodology page, an editorial policy, and topic hubs for property tax, insurance, and home equity. Tool pages and articles now show a How we got these numbers box with the publisher and URL behind each figure.
Houston ISD rate and homestead
The property tax calculator now applies Houston ISD’s 20% local-option homestead on top of the state $140,000, and it uses the 2026 adopted rate of $0.8421 per $100. Houston City College stays optional. Harris County over-65 dollar amounts stay off the calculation because the court order and the HCAD page do not match.
Mortgage survey
The mortgage calculator’s starting rate is the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week of October 15, 2026: 7.40% on a 30-year fixed and 6.71% on a 15-year fixed.
Removed unsourced figures
City guides and the homepage no longer show a median value or a five-year growth rate. Spring, League City, and Pearland print the core rate from the taxing-unit file. Articles no longer carry claim shares, fee ranges, or exemption examples that were not tied to a public source.
